May 2020 and Beyond Lockdowns

O May God! This May has been unlike any other. Most of it spent in lockdown conditions..not uncomfortable, but making people uneasy about the future. Reminds me of certain other events- the New York Bombings, or the Tsunami of 2004 (the first time I heard the word). But the pandemic caused by the COVID 19 virus is of a larger scale and scope.

What happens next, at least till a cure or vaccine is found, is anybody's guess. We did expect a Third World War, but not this virus. Tells you something about how inflated the human ego is, after so-called centuries of progress on the tech front. On the positive side, we are still attempting to conquer the epidemic, and might succeed.

On the other, a re-evaluation of how we function as a whole (not particular nationalities) is probably overdue. Our consumerism does create jobs, and brings prosperity to many who want to work (maybe because other options are not available to them) in producing those goods. But beyond a limit, it causes damage to water, air, and so on that sustain us. A balance is needed, perhaps? But how do all the diverse political or social entities arrive at a consensus on the way forward?

An unprecedented crisis, and an unprecedented opportunity- looks like it may be wasted, as many before it- no major financial reforms after 2008 happened, did they?
