Portraits of Batchmates- 6

This was our placement officer at IIMB. The following were two of my classmates-

SS

He was named TNT because he spoke English in a Tamil accent end Tamil with a Nasal Twang. He is rumoured to possess a '"Book of Nonsense" and "Nonsense Novels". That explains a lot about him.

Tappu

This young lad from Kerala was a re-cycled and much-improved version of Rip Van Winkle.
He maintained a strict routine of a small nap, lunch, small nap, tea, small............ He occasionally found time to get passionately involved with Naffy the dog and Kiwi the monkey.
A true story about the guy. OG, the placement officer, wanting to discuss business, asked him, "Sajiv, when are you free?”
"Most of the time," he replied most matter-of-factly.

Librans- a Closer Look

Found something about my sun-sign that we wrote a few years ago (1984, to be precise)- gave Linda Goodman a good run for her money, if you ask me. Anyway, here, make up your mind if we did- the people mentioned are all from my MBA class.

The above are not Librans. At my abode in Vasant Vihar, 1984, Venky and Rajan.

LIBRA

"More sex symbols were born under this sign than any other" says Peter Vidal. With Vicky around, the case is open-and-shut.

Punctuality is the hall-mark of a Libran, as anyone who has watched To Do enter the mess at 9.50 a.m. (closing time) for 2 years knows.

Librans are soft-spoken, natural charmers (Shakti is a case in point). Their fundas are clear on matters concerning export- be it commodities (Lakshmikanthan),  or self (Ravi).

They are well-versed in ancient Hindu Mythology- Vedavyas will readily testify to this. Librans tend to get good jobs (Anu 'Grindlays' Herlekar) - and sometimes they work while on duty too!

Librans are great believers in chastity (not the belt) of language—Suresh V. speaks chaste Hindi, and Tothogoto, chaste Urdu.

More often than not, the Libra physique is the object of Male envy (Gunds) and Female adulation (Sekhar)

Portraits of Batchmates- 4

The series continues; might give ideas to current MBA students planning their year-book. Two more of my classmates figure in this one.

Corporate Man

He was the original Pied Piper. Wherever he went, the pipe preceded and the girls tollowed. The fact that he was the best-dressed person, the fact that he had a grand physique and matching looks (fair enough!), that he spoke with a perfect. clipped, well-modulated accent, definitely helped. Was alternately mistaken tor the Director of IIM and the MD of a multinational all through the placement scene. A less-known fact about him was his genuine interest in cricket and theatre.
Tagline (based on a Paint ad)- In a world of corporate mediocrity, some things stand apart”

NOBS

She was a spec-tacular girl. Apparently she couldn't see without specs. The concept of "man ki ankhen" was absolutely alien to her. She liked quanti subjects and loafing. She couldn't stand abstract theories and castles in the air. She loves covering herself in woollens and watching Sunil Gavaskar bat. Her fondest dream: To meet Gavaskar in person.

Another Musical Show

Organiser was Sanmira who also sang a couple of good songs- Hari Om Hari by Usha Uthup was one. But the pick of the singers were Atul Patha...
