Valentine's Day (New) Thoughts

Thoughts come and go, so these are  new ones, about good old Valentine's Day.. and love.

Love makes the world go around, someone has said. True, along with lesser forms of it, like goodwill. Otherwise, we would all be dead, maybe killing each other in larger numbers than we do now.

So what exactly should we do on Valentine's Day? Try and be loving. Start with yourself. 'Like' all the good things about yourself. Then start appreciating people who deserve to be- your friends, colleagues, family or whoever is worthy of that appreciation. Bosses too, if they are deserving.

Sending Chocolates or Roses may not be the only way to do it. Having a chai or a Misti Doi with them (you can tell I am in Kolkata? How?) might be OK too. I do try and have a lunch or dinner or coffee, with those whom I like and appreciate, whenever I can- not just on February 14th. Any day when we can do that.

Being Human is not a slogan, or should not be. It should be an everyday feature of our lives. Be nice, and most often, it will brighten up your life, along with some others' .

What People Might Do on Valentine's Day

A bit early, but the day is not far away! So, imagine what the following would do, and where they would be on Valentine's Day.

Donald Trump- He would love to take over Greenland, Poland, any land where he can spread some love!

Putin- He believes in communism, and so loves all equally. Ukraine ho ya Afghanistan. Will try and prove it too.

Sherlock Holmes- he would go out in search of True Love- more difficult than all his other assignments put together.

Hercule Poirot- he would just be his charming, old-world self.

SRK- short for Shah Rukh Khan. He would love to sign autographs for his million admirers.

Salman- his search is unending, because he occasionally beats them up.. lovingly, of course.

Road Romeos- would be locked up in a safe place! With no Juliets in sight.

Valentine's Day Thoughts

It is popularly seen as a romantic day or day for romancing. But if you expand the meaning to a larger one, maybe we could view it as a day to celebrate universal love and brother/sisterhood.

Why we need such days more frequently, is that wars, coups, persecution and grief are the order of the day in large parts of the world-many for no good reason. Hoping that these will reduce through the next few years. But certainly, expressing good feelings towards everyone, including significant others, is always a welcome idea. Celebrate parents, children, friends and in my case, students too.

Happy Valentine's Day, in advance!

Romancing the Song

The title is inspired by the English film I saw called Romancing the Stone-very entertaining film. But this is about Hindi film songs. We have a huge number of romantic songs in our films. Recalling a few on the occasion of Valentine's Day (need an excuse, that's all).

Choodi nahi yeh mera dil hai..

O mere dil ke chain

Aaja sanam madhur chandni mein hum tum

O mere sona re sona re sona re

Wada karo jaanam, na chhodoge yeh daaman, zamaana chahe chhoote

Bekhudi mein sanam uth gaye jo kadam, aa gaye paas hum

Tumko mere dil ne pukara hai bade naaz se..

Tum mile pyar se mujhe jeena gawara hua

Piya piya piya mora jiya pukare

Meri neendon mein tum mere khwabon mein tum..

Chura liya hai tumne jo dil ko nazar nahin churana sanam

Main kahin kavi na ban jaun tere pyar mein ae Kavita
