Cliches and Platitudes

The law will take its own course. How many times have we heard this one, about an ongoing investigation into the crimes and misdemeanors of the high and mighty, from politicians, businessmen to cricket players/admins/bookies and so on?

May I ask very humbly, what other course is the law supposed to take, if not its own?

We are seized of this matter. Again, usually an administration fobbing off demands for action. Since most administrations are ill-equipped for it, what this usually means is that they are having a 'seizure' with the thought that they have to move their butts and actually do something.

The benefits should go to the poorest of the poor. Anyone who mouths this usually has several layers between himself and the segments he/she is talking about.

Customers are our top priority. Barring about eight companies, this is a travesty of the truth, and of what happens on the ground. Aided by bull-headed, unfriendly rules such as KYC, which makes opening a bank account akin to scaling the Kanchenjunga. Except during Jan Dhan yojanas. Everest is renewing a license, or a passport. Why this needs planning like in an expedition never has been explained satisfactorily.

Benefits of Turning 53

The benefits of turning 53 are many. I am now eligible for all these-

You are no longer a teenager and you know it. You are an uncle/aunty for most of those wet-behind the ears people, who think you are 'respect-worthy'.

Most dyes (and baldness cures?) have been tried out and now you get to accept the grey hair. Makes you graceful.

You have money in the bank. If you don't, you no longer hope for it to be there.

You stop ranting about how bad the world is, because you couldn't change it one bit in all this time.

You have some unknown riches in terms of progeny- it's not Greek. It means sons or daughters.

You have already worked for long enough not to get disillusioned by the workplace. Scott Adams only brings on gentle laughter, not an uproarious one.

You start giving advice, which no one wants, but you still give it anyway.

You can drink with your own money instead of your parents'.

You have to worry only for a few more years, if you are the worrying type.

You can make spelling mistakes on fb posts, and the reader understands..and forgives you.

You can blog to your heart's content about issues completely irrelevant to everybody else..hope all is forgiven?

Benefits of Going to College

There are great benefits to be gained from going to college. Undergraduate, postgraduate, does not really matter which level. And these are not what the parents think they are.

1. The canteen is a great place to be. For the food, the ambience, or the lack of it, but most of all, for being unlike the class.

2. There are sports to be played and learnt. You can even excel in a few.

3. If you are the unsporting type, you can watch others play. Heck, the whole country is at it with the IPL.

4. There is an outside chance of getting a girlfriend (boyfriend) as the case may be. And then, of course, an equally good chance of a break-up. Keeps you occupied.

5. You meet nice people, like they said in an old Honda scooters ad (in the US, not here in India).

6. You can learn to doodle, draw caricatures, or develop new measures to measure the performance of faculty. gives you a headstart for a job in H.R. (Human resources).

7. You get to spend dad/mom's money, with no grumbling to accompany it. Try spending it on a world cruise instead, and you'll get what I am saying.
