Coolie Starring Rajnikanth

He's cool, whether he's a Coolie, or a jailer, or anyone else. Saw his latest yesterday. Fireworks all the way, with a dose of emotion, and a twist or two.

He has an unmatched screen presence, in my view. He does not need a heroine, who looks like an extra in his presence-such is his magic on screen! He does not have one, therefore.. only a daughter-like figure who accompanies him for most of the film.

The smuggling operation is led by a villain, who has a past. Played by Nagarjuna Akkineni, Telugu film star with aplomb. Kattappa of Bahubali fame has a decent role as a friend of the hero, who gets killed by a surprise villain, and the story is a kind of revenge quest. Shruti Hasan is Ok in her role as the daughter-figure. Amir Khan gets to play a guest role, not a bad one.

The story is not new or great, but enough to hang his acting and screen time on, and for Rajni fans, nothing else matters, as I said. If you are a fan, go for it. if not, well, it's up to you. Only bad thing? The music.

Bonus- Ticket price in Kolkata is very reasonable!

My Engineering College Days

Some of my buddies from then (1977-82, Osmania University), in modern times..above, in a railway coach in Bangalore, and below, in Bheemeswari resort not too far from Bangalore.
Venugopal Reddy, who went on to join the Railways hosted us in a coach built up as a living room. He is also a golfer, and we have played a few times in Delhi Golf Club. K Srinivasa Murthy just retired after selling out his manufacturing company in a technical field, after successful forays into international markets. Nagarjuna continues in his business selling equipment made by big brands. Huma became an author and traveller. Others are pursuing various things as consultants in India and abroad. And I, of course, have nothing to do with electrical engineering any more, and teach marketing to unsuspecting students.

Some others, we have lost out on-Alok and Seshagiri Rao are no more. Our profs. made valiant attempts to teach us, with varying degrees of success. Dhanvantari, B. Hanumantha Rao and P. Hanumantha Rao (nicknamed Pichhi), are some that I remember, apart from Ethirajulu.

School, College and Other Alumni

We do meet up at times, all of these alumni. Some photographic memories- Hyderabad Public School alumni -we met a few years ago in Hyderaba...
