Monopoly Madness - Airline Industry

If you are a near-monopoly, you care less and less about the customer. The govt. is usually a monopoly, and we know how it 'serves' its customers. But this one is about Indigo, which has reached its nadir with a fiasco so bad, it has nowhere to hide.

For one which micromanages passenger movements and makes them stand in line for 20-25 minutes just to board a flight, to one which cannot estimate its own pilot requirements! What a Fall, as Mark Antony would have said.

Short term solutions are OK, but in the long run, a couple of viable alternatives have to emerge, or else trains will become the preferred mode of moving around.

Also a severe penalty for this nonsensical situation is needed, to compensate for the disruptions in many lives.. maybe a fare cap!

Banning Things

Just thinking aloud.. hopefully no one's listening, like in a class.

What are the new things we can put on the banned list?

1. Intelligent behaviour that can prevent further spread of COVID. Anyway, that seems to be in short supply. Might as well ban it, and enjoy the Tokyo Olympics in a stadium.

2. Surge Fares for cabs/flights. Since there are hardly any customers, this may hardly matter. People are just driving to the nearest hill-stations, it seems like.

3. Hill-stations can be banned. Remove the roads leading to them. Air drop supplies to residents.

4. Population-reduction devices (also known as family planning devices) ..when we have Covid, there's no need for those.

5. Maths- If we have no exams in 10th and 12th, we can help everyone by banning the subject.

6. The coot- Bandicoot! How's that for the closing shot?

Some Mundane Fantasies

The subjects of my fantasies are as mundane as clean roads, people with civic sense, governments with vision, and so on. The top few-

  1. Accountants who say yes, rather than no. I know that's not possible ever, but that's what fantasies are about, right?
  2. Enough check-in counters based on the number of flights - is that too much to ask? Simple maths is all that is needed.
  3. A government office that believes its job is to serve people, and not obstruct them (and practices it)-refer to point 1 above.
  4. Actors (particularly actresses) who can act- Katrina, are you listening?
  5. Directors who can direct, editors who actually do some editing- like the above.
  6. Students who take an elective course because they are interested in working at it/on it.
  7. Speakers who know how to...SPEAK, and not be the same as the objective of a role model drill- a BORE.
  8. Journalists with sense, interviewers who keep shut after asking a question.
  9. Facebookers who are not always holier-than-thou.
  10. A magician who can make Donald Trump vanish from the face of the earth-Mars needs colonizing!
Now tell me, am I asking for too much?

Airport Blog

A first for me- blogging from an airport internet connection. The first floor on Mumbai airport's domestic terminal. Seems like a damn good terminal, better than the one on the ground floor, which is congested. Making some strides towards an international look and feel, in some areas. The first flight from Nagpur was also surprisingly nice, and almost on time. While I wait for the next to Chennai, these are some musings on life at an airport, as felt first-hand. I am destined to spend a lot of time at airports, so might as well make the most of it.

Nagpur airport also has inaugurated its aerobridge recently, and the number of flights out of Nagpur has gone up too, with added connections to Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Srinagar (via Delhi) etc. Spicejet started flying to Nagpur, but Kingfisher seems to have stopped doing so.

Got to go check the food options.
