The difficulty of Taking a Good Photograph

 I have clicked half a million pics by now, I believe. I have also been subjected to-been the subject of- a quarter million, enough to keep my fb timeline occupied for the rest of my life. The ones I clicked have included portraits, landscapes, adults or kids as subjects, or inanimate objects-natural, or staged like an advertising photo.

Getting the light right is one major concern. Getting the frame right is the second, but can be done by cropping to some extent now. Getting people -adults or children, to behave or pose (most pics are posed, few are candid) is the third.

In spite of various difficulties, I think I have managed to create (in my opinion, of course), a few decent clicks. Let me begin with some portraits- 

Portraits of Batchmates- 7

MOLE

Socially relevant. If you catch him at Uncle's, that's all the company you'll need. An extremely sociable introverted extrovert, he could slog like a log. His particular aversion: Dogs in the bogs. High point at IIMB: Killed two Cobras and a grass-snake. The last one was the high point and was just ‘Hi & Bye'-for the snake.

Hyper

What can one say about a guy who is perpetually wreathed in smiles, loves Deepti, Shabana,Poonam, Rati, Hema equally, expects to live till 75 years, can't stand MBA females, talks about Fibonocci Numbers at length and whose high point at IIMB was an exclamation mark and the low point a question mark? That is a big question mark for us.

Ghosh Babu

Height: 5' 10 1/2". Weight: 64 Kgs. Appetite-Indifferent. Speed: Good. Young's modulus: Indeterminate. Fidelity: High. Tone: Low. Eyesight: Left bad, right worse. Centre: Undeveloped. Rhythm: Good. Demeanour: Polite.

Just in case cops/prospective spouse want it.

They will only be identified by their nicknames, or by initials. These are descriptions that adorned the Yearbook 1982-84.Who says managers are not creative?

SG

Uncrowned leader of the opposition in General Body Meetings, this smart, cherubic young man believes that he has a constructive role to play, fracas with Dunhill & Gadkari apart. Charms is his spirit of freedom and his charms really work. Easy & outgoing, clicked with JD (our marketing prof.). More known for his wildlife excursions than for his enthu about computers. A keen Bridge player and was part of the group which initiated movies in the campus. His favorite jingle : Money, Money, Mani. (Oops, did we slip?)

(Note: We screened Hindi films on a 16 m.m. projector, and Jangal Mein Mangal and Bramhachari were two of these.)

Toddler

He believed in toddling casually into the class 55 minutes late or 75 minutes early depending on which class you are thinking of. He had the dubious distinction of being the youngest guy in the class and younger than most of the girls (even the age they claimed). His voice is remarkable. It is a real treat to hear him when he is tipsy. Even otherwise, he says all the right things at the wrong time.
