Leadership- With a Pinch of Salt

Keep your tongue firmly in your cheek. This is not serious, unless you take it otherwise.

Leadership is of many types- for instance

1. Leader as Cop. He has to keep tabs on everyone, and try and hang at least one person a day, for crimes of omission, commission, or remission. Committed or not, because the cop is only as successful as his number count!

2. Leader as Saviour. He thinks he is the Noah who has to navigate the ship the subordinates are on to safety. If not, they may drown and he will shoulder the blame, and rot in Hell.

3. Leader as Parent. He thinks he has many idiot children (subordinates), who tend to be infantile. As a parent, it's his responsibility to knock some sense into them, so they can one day grow up!

There could be more types, but I am tired now, so let me stop and take a (deep) breath!

Love Aaj Kal -2 Long

The movie has lessons- for the film maker and the lead characters.

1. If you make a long movie (defined as anything over 2 hours today), please watch Sholay before you make it. Learn the tricks. Even Amar Akbar Anthony will do, but Sholay is better.

2. If all that the hero and heroine are going to do is vacillate, show them playing "Will she, will she not?" or its equivalent, "Will he, will he not?" More entertaining, any day.

3. Make sure the lead characters enrol for an MBA and learn decision-making skills. If not an MBA, at least a short term training program- an MDP.

4. There is a reason why Randeep Hooda does not get meaty roles. Respect that.

5. Don't copy tunes from Nagin starring Vyjayanthimala. (This is for Preetam)

Verdict? Go watch Life in a Metro. It also had music by Preetam. Much better music, and a better story too.

My Failures

Inspired by something I saw on Facebook recently, I will try and recount some of my failures.

I failed to nurture some talents that I had, except maybe writing. I may have been good at cricket if I tried, or Badminton, or singing. But I feel happy that I did not subject anyone to my cricket commentating skills. Or TV-serial acting skills. The last one doesn't exist.

I failed to be firm (an infirmity?) when I could have, a few times. Particularly with my bosses. Though I did get into fights with some, and even quit jobs over those fights.

I usually am a failure at judging people-or being judgemental, to be precise. I feel everyone has lots of talent, and it is usually someone's failure to spot it that puts them in a spot. Maybe I am guilty here.

I am a complete failure at taking life seriously for too long. Sooner or later (usually sooner), I start to see the funny side of it. A congenital problem, I would say.

Being an eternal (non-serious) optimist, I fail to see any reason for the negativity that one sees on TIMES NOW or on Social Media. That, you might say, is a BIG one.
