Predictive Analytics - My Take

 I have a model which predicts with at least 50 % accuracy, almost all behaviour. Patented? Not yet, but I may file soon. Try it on for size.

What's X doing at this point in time? He's commuting, plus staring at his mobile phone.

What's Y up to? He/she is eating, plus staring at his mobile phone.

What's Z doing? Driving, plus staring at his mobile. My Ola driver was actually doing this, for directions today. But non-Ola drivers also routinely do this.. therefore the prediction.

What's A doing on his date with his girlfriend? Also staring at his mobile.. while glancing at her occasionally, or pretending to be impressing her.

What's B doing? At a family dinner, staring at his mobile..

What am I doing? Yeah, you guessed it.. wrong! 

My model is 50% accurate at all times, coz people are doing whatever they are doing, plus staring at their mobiles.

Behaviour and Leadership

 I think if you wanted to study contrasting styles of political leadership, you only have to look at New Zealand and the USA in the last few years. No idea where Jacinda Ardern came from, but for me, she symbolises what leadership is all about. Of course, economic growth is important, but it's not everything. We are human beings, not robots. 

Even robots may not be too happy with the kind of crass behaviour that the last POTUS put up, I am sure. He posed as a successful businessman, but I am not too sure that was also misrepresented like most things about him. Of course, he was legally elected, and had a right to his political and economic views/policies. My point is more about the human angle. Maybe if COVID had not shown him up for what he was, he may have won again. In a way, Biden must thank the virus too for helping his cause.

Hope the Biden-Harris era reminds us more of the gentlemen of the past.

Being Nice to People

I am not sure why people find it so tough to be nice. I mean, it's not rocket science, is it?

I am not talking of situations where as a part of your role, you may have to tick off someone- an errant student, or an errant employee for justifiable reasons..even there, a gentle ticking off is recommended, if you ask me.

I am talking of more general interactions, where you have a choice- to be not nice or be nice.

I find it's nicer to be nice than not nice, because it gives you a good feeling, which lasts for a while. And we are all in it together anyway, and not for much more than 70 years at best..so why not make the most of it?

And most people are actually quite nice, as long as you are not spending 25 years with them..and some, even if you are..

QED. I have probably proposed a new way to live- for some.

Trending- Bad Behaviour

Why is it that bad behaviour is so rampant? The video of a passenger being manhandled (still not sure why, as reports are incomplete as usual)  by airline staff in Delhi are disturbing. Usually such treatment is reserved for potential hijackers inside an aircraft (or drunk brawlers in a pub). Or is it an attempt to catch up with global benchmarks? -United staff physically dragged a passenger out of an overbooked flight recently.

Is excessive competition to be blamed? Or policies of the employer as implemented by some line managers that create stress? Or just individuals acting out of line on their own? Luckily, we still don't have gunmen shooting and killing at random, but if we had lax gun laws like the U.S., I am sure we would cross their benchmarks in this arena too.

Do humans need to be taught to respect fellow human beings? Is this what they call Kaliyug? No idea at all, but something is seriously wrong somewhere. On a bigger scale, War being threatened by a superpower over trivial things is the new normal, it looks like.
