Initial Impressions- Sri Lanka

Went for a family (destination) wedding to Sri Lanka and stayed in Negombo beach. First impressions-

It is expensive compared to many similar Indian destinations. Particularly, entry fees for foreigners are high in many sight-seeing spots. Some may be worth the price, some not.

The people are nice and friendly. Mostly, laid-back. The cleanliness is a lesson to us. They also obey traffic signals.

The women wear sarees, but in a slightly different way.

The towns resemble Kerala in colour of store-fronts, and appams are available everywhere. The greenery is similar too.

So are lunch buffets with prices varying from 250 Sri-Lankan Rupees to 500 or more. Lots of women entrepreneurs in this business.

Tea, gemstones, cashews are some specialities.

It would take a week to see all the sights. We did a couple, along with the wedding.

E-visas are very easy to get online.

Monsoon Come Lately

Like Johnny-come-lately, Mr. Monsoon (like some ladies we know) is late. Well, better late than never, some might say. What with having to deal with El Nino and other distractions, we should be thankful he came at all. Otherwise, we would have had a party with no guest- metaphorically.

When he comes too soon (no innuendo intended), we complain. And when he does not come (likewise), we predict a future worse than the Great Extinction during some pre-historic Stone Age -pardon my pale knowledge of the paleo-age nomenclature.

Now that he is here, we are hoping he'll stay for dinner. We can actually make some, since the veggies will become affordable, and the crops will bloom. Acchhe din aagaye?

Getting Serious

When will we grow up and get serious about all the Syrias (or Koreas) of the world? Not very soon, until countries stop thinking of themselves as policemen of the world, and poking their nose into other people's business (rather than getting their own house in order).

Till then, here is a PJ to keep yourself distracted.

An employer is the one who employs an employee. Right?

Therefore, a Barber is the one who sends a barb to a Barbie.

Laughter is the best medicine, in the face of onion prices, chemical weapons, and shooters in the backyard of the Navy (building). And Miss Americas from India. Columbus must be happy.

Just a thought. Would we have Muthoot Onion Loans being incorporated in India soon?
