Films- Our Heritage

 Films that we have produced in India since the 1930s are a part of our heritage. And songs (both music and lyrics) are a great part of it.

I just realised this when watching a few musical programs over the last month or two in Pune, post my retirement. I have watched a lot of artists perform, of varying quality on stage. But they are all preserving that great legacy, I feel.

Some great music was due to the Burman duo, SD and RD Burman, my favourites among music directors. There were many more, like Ravi, Roshan and son Rajesh Roshan, Kalyanji Anandji, Chitragupt, and later, Jatin-Lalit and AR Rahman.

Also the lyricists Anand Bakshi, Neeraj, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Hasrat Jaipuri, Shailendra and so on.

Kishore Kumar among male singers and Asha Bhosle among the ladies were my favourites, though a lot more contributed over the years.

A legacy that will live on, for many years.

IIT Roorkee

 Pronounced Roodkey in Hindi, this is an ancient town with a 177 year old engineering college turned IIT. We went there to meet some graduating doctoral students, to try and interest them in joining Prestige University. A beautiful heritage building is now being worked on to restore it. Some homegrown mangoes also were available, and we were shown around by a Prof. from IIT. A very nice colonial-style guest house was pleasant to stay in.

Visit to Nagaland

 My third visit to Nagaland in the last few months. This time, we are meeting faculty of Tetso college for a workshop, and students for a session on Personal Branding.

Staying at a place called Heirloom Naga Centre that has a guest house. They also make stuff from Cane at a workshop, and are mostly into export of crafted cane products. They have a showroom on the premises too.

There are around a 100 temples in Kancheepuram - about 70 kilometres from Chennai..we discovered some of these treasures last week. Ekambareswara, Kailasa and Vaikuntha Perumal are some temples featured.
