Penn Masala- a Band From a University Abroad

Went to a concert where only vocals rule.. the band does not use any musical instruments. A fusion experiment from the University of Pennsylvania, USA, the play a mix of Hindi and English songs.. or sing them. Interesting experiment, and moderately good singing. There are ten men in the band, I think. No women. That reduces the diversity of what they can sing, but the energy levels are high. I was not familiar with the English songs, but a few Hindi ones were pretty decent. 6.5 on 10.

All of them sing or perform music together, with no instruments..

All That Jazz

Don't remember a lot from that film, but I knew there was one. It is rare that we see concerts involving people such as Louis Banks, and it was a wonderful surprise to see him and Sivamani in the same hall that we saw Manna Dey perform in a decade or so ago.. Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bangalore.

Anyway, it was an energetic performance by four or five of them, including these two. There was flute, guitar and keyboard along with various percussion instruments.

The compere also was a familiar name from FM radio- Vasanti Hariprakash. A great evening, on the whole.

Mispronounced Words

Growing up, a lot of words were mispronounced, by us and those around us. These included a few English words- Daver or Diver for Driver Tat...
