Caselets on People I Know

 Ok, this is a continuing series, and many more people I know are yet to be covered. But let me try-

NIFT Students- Thanks to Bhaskar Banerjee, a friend at NIFT in Gandhinagar, I met a few of his students. They were refreshingly different from many other groups I have met earlier, apart from being well-turned out-naturally, they are all students of fashion mgt./tech. Got to chat with a few too, over the day, and found one- Mehak, whose name resembles a student of mine from NMIMS Bangalore. Surnames too are similar. Singhi in this case, and Singhal for Bangalore. The first name means fragrance- nice and apt! Another bright student was Dhanali-I suspect she's a reader of this blog too!

The other Mahek from Bangalore is in the pic below, on my left. Another bright student, who I interacted with a bit more than others in my two years at NMIMS. She was an office bearer in the Acad. committee.

Tanmeet Kaur Sahiwal. A law professor, and captain of the Women's Golf team at NMIMS Bangalore. A very competent teacher, and fun to be with. I found her husband was a student of my friend at IIT Delhi some years ago too. He wants a Bajaj Matador as his vehicle of choice! Hope he gets it!

Colleagues at NMIMS

 Here is a quick run-down on some of my colleagues at NMIMS Bangalore

Ekalavya, the placement Don. Has put in place the process, and his knowledge of the corporate world has also helped get excellent campus placements for our MBA students these past few years. A good relationship manager.

Sangram Wadkar-It's rare that you recruit someone who plays Golf, anywhere in India-there are so few who do. Therefore, a great surprise that he ends up being one. Latest addition to our placement team.

Preeti Ravikiran- a friendly soul who also is keenly interested in sports- very sporting, in other words. A good teacher of some quant courses including Visual Analytics, the current buzzword. 

Smruti Rammohan- The world is small. She worked with Jasmine Shah in the Delhi government, and he is the husband of my ex-student Padmapriya. And she is from Hyderabad.

Srinivasa Murthy- a librarian, and also a great singer.

Sridarshan- American-educated prof. who taught strategy. Also into spiritual pursuits.

Prerona- An inspiration to many, I am sure. A bright Ph.D. from IIT G, in Economics. Golfer too, now.

Tanmeet- A great smile complements a pleasant personality. Will captain the Women's Golf team at NM.

Archana- a very friendly and balanced person, my secretary for two years.

Rajeshwari- in addition to the telephone, she handles a camera quite well. 

Deepak Sharma- a caricaturist par excellence, and HR faculty who published in newspapers regularly.

Vishnu Bhat- Bhagwan ka avatar? Troubleshooter par excellence, with prior work-ex at IBS.

Aparna- much-loved quant faculty... aisa bhi ho sakta hai..miracles will never cease!

Narayani- MBA Chair, and my successor. All-rounder like Kapil Dev. Her energy levels have to be seen to be believed.

Bakalavati- Unique name, and a unique person. A talented academic coordinator.

Creating Memories

 Living in the present is fine, but I think life is about creating memories-preferably good ones. So it's not surprising whether imprinted on a photograph or just on the mind, I am full of memories- mostly good ones. It's a different matter that I forget my passwords, but important people and time spent with them, I do remember. 

That process has started- compiling some memories of my two years at NMIMS Bangalore, with a lot of wonderful people.

Amazing Golf Session

 How many B schools can boast of all incoming MBA students learning Golf basics in a single day? May be some food for thought for folks at Guinness Book of Records? Well, we did that today, with 220 plus incoming students of 2022-24. Think Big! If we focus on the number of women who played today, it could be another record- around 45 percent of the batch is women, this year.

NMIMS Bengaluru Convocation April 2022

 A physical convocation, at last. After 2019, a gap of three years. Last two were held online, and though well-attended, the excitement this time was palpable. The Chief Guest was from IBM Consulting, and heads DevOps and AI OPs practice. The emcees were Rakshita and Nikhiel from MBA batch 12. Exec PGDM students of Batch 25 also graduated along with MBA 11. 

Visitors from Albany, New York

 We had the Dean of the Business School and two professors from State Univ. of New York at Albany visit us. We have been partners at the University level, for a few years, and have a 2yrs. + 2 yrs. Bachelor's program with a dual degree arrangement with them. It was a pleasure catching up in person and discussing collaboration opportunities of different kinds, including research, conferences..

Sports Tournament

 Our Undergraduate students Sports Club kicked off their first tournament after a long time! Started with basketball, which was fun to watch. Mixed teams ensured that girls played too, and a referee was also a girl. Great to see some sports action. Pics from today's game...

Energy of Youth

 It is a fact of life that youth is the time when you have energy at its zenith, and it gets lower as you age. One reason why man has always been trying to reverse nature's law, and remain young. But even as you age and (hopefully) mature, you can retain the bubbly energy of the young by being with them. Their enthusiasm is contagious (much more than Omicron), and you feel young.
