Sixth Convocation of JIS University

 I have attended a lot of Convocations. This was maybe the 20th of my life. But memorable, in many ways. The First in Kolkata. On 21st February, 2026.

IMT Nagpur Convocation 2012

 This one was special in many ways. One, it saw two helicopters land on campus. The Chief Guest was Mr. Mukesh Ambani, so the students were thrilled. We all became celebs for a day.

NMIMS Bengaluru Convocation April 2022

 A physical convocation, at last. After 2019, a gap of three years. Last two were held online, and though well-attended, the excitement this time was palpable. The Chief Guest was from IBM Consulting, and heads DevOps and AI OPs practice. The emcees were Rakshita and Nikhiel from MBA batch 12. Exec PGDM students of Batch 25 also graduated along with MBA 11. 

NMIMS Bangalore Upcoming Convocation

 Had an informal meeting with the Convocation Chief Guest for the upcoming convocation at NMIMS Bangalore-Ms. Meenakshi Sreenivasan. She's an accomplished global head of one of IBM Consulting's important Practices. It was fascinating to learn about upcoming areas in which the company has a leading-edge practice for global clients. Also learnt about DevOps and AIOps, the new buzzwords in the I.T. Consulting domain. A lot of multinationals use India as their base now for many cutting edge products/services/businesses. IBM is also one of these.

Our 11th batch of MBA, and 25th batch of Executive MBA program are convocating tomorrow (April 21, 2022), physically after a long break in physical events, due to COVID.

Felicitating Students and Staff 2021

 The students who topped various programs and staff and faculty who were "best" at their jobs, were felicitated by our institute - NMIMS, Bangalore last week. This was a kind of a substitute for a Convocation, which happened online earlier. Some pics with and of the awardees.

Second Convocation at NMIMS Bangalore

 We had our first virtual one after I joined, in January 2021. Fairly late for the batch of 2020, but then, those were tough times, with no vaccines and no idea where we were headed. This time, September 25th, was much better because we at least were vaccinated, and feeling relatively better. Though we had expected a physical Convocation this time, it was not to be. So my second Convocation as Director happened today, and we made the most of it.

These two young ladies were the MCs at the event- Divya and Sreelekha. They are students of second year MBA, with backgrounds in Fashion and Sociology, respectively.

Message from Convocation Chief Guest

 Graduating students of Brand NMIMS Bangalore got some sage advice from Mr. Ganesh Shenoy, chief guest recently. 

Be resilient, he said, it will stand you in good stead. 

Spend at least 3-5 years in a company, as it takes time to understand the industry, and to develop expertise in any field.

Focus on self-development, in addition to the company's initiatives through H.R., or line managers.

Get familiar with digitization of the workplace, flexi or hybrid modes of work, and technology in general. Analytics and automation will increase, and you have to get used to it.

Track new businesses that are spawned by crises such as the pandemic. 

Have a business orientation in addition to a functional one. Only when the business grows, will you.

A transformational mindset will help you grow, and your organization to grow.
